The Microalgae Biorefinery was established through the INDEPENDENT Project, implemented under the Competitive Sectors Programme led by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and financed within the framework of financial cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye.
Based on a bioeconomy-driven growth model, the products and technologies developed here are obtained through an integrated production approach entirely from algae-based natural resources—without reliance on fossil sources. Using micro- and macroalgae cultivated in reactors, the facility plans to develop human dietary supplements, pharmaceutically active components, animal feed applications, organic fertilizer, and biofuels.
Designed with a zero-waste target, once it reaches full operational capacity, the facility will become the first carbon-negative integrated biorefinery in Türkiye and Europe.
